Yesterday started slowly with a couple of loads of laundry
and much reading of the rig manuals to come up with a plan. The big event of the day however was the
scheduled tour of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT.
So, plan in hand, we headed for Kanab and the hardware store
for a multi-meter (Sparky, aka Robin will explain), Napa Auto Parts for some
anti-freeze (yes, we’re tackling coolant today) and the grocery store to
restock Fritos, bread and milk – essentials when camping.
Then up the road to Best Friends. I don’t remember when I first learned of this
sanctuary, but it’s been on my bucket list for years. They are the largest, no-kill animal shelter
in the country, housing at any one time, 1500-1700 animals including dogs,
cats, horses, mini-pigs, parrots, burros, goats, bunnies and a variety of
wildlife. Every animal has a life plan
that, if possible, includes adoption.
If, for whatever reason, the animal is not a candidate for adoption, they
have a place at the sanctuary for life and a resting spot in the animal cemetery
at the end. It’s an impressive
operation in a beautiful setting. Rather
than me dumping more info on you, here’s the link to their website http://www.bestfriends.org/atthesanctuary/ Check it out.
If you’re in the area, take a tour.
If you have more time, they love having volunteers for a day, a week or more. Enjoy the photos of our visit.

No animal day would be complete with an update on our
traveling best friends. Beanie relaxing
after a hard day of sleeping and Xenia watching our neighbors and their dog
having dinner. Today, off to Bryce
Canyon.
I just love reading these. I will be so sorry when your trip ends!
